Part I: Holy Ghost In Action

Introduction
One of the ways that God has promised to Help us, is through “The Helper” another
characteristic of the Holy Ghost, a part of His Job Description if you will.

Page I wrote brief blog post as an intro of sorts to this New Series on the Holy Ghost.
• Question: Have you ever noticed, that we human beings often avoid or ignore
things we can’t get our minds around?

Illustration (Little Box): The Holy Ghost, the third person of the Trinity, of the
Godhead, seems more mysterious than God the Father and Jesus; less tangible if
you will; our Minds demand to to know it all, to be able to explain, to wrap up what
we know about something in a nice little box, with a bow on it.

Problem: The Holy Ghost, just like God the Father and Jesus, who we often believe
we have figured out, just doesn’t fit into that little box so neatly.

Over the next few weeks we’re going to explore this Holy Ghost, we’ll see Him in
Action, we’ll checkout some of His characteristics, and we’ll see Him at Work in and
through the people of God.

Today - The Holy Ghost In Action
Old Testament (Judges 13-16)
Story of Samson and of course, Delilah.
Reading: Judges 13:2-5 (Announcement of Samson’s Birth by Angel & Nazarite
Vow)
Reading: Judges 13:24-25 (#1: Spirit Began To Stir)
• Philistines Ruling over Israel (Oppressive Rule)
• 3 Times we read, “The Spirit of the Lord came upon him…”
• Driven by his passions, his lusts, his flesh Samson made some bad mistakes and
he was chosen by God as one who would deliver Israel from Philistine, but God
still moves through him: Women, Stomach, Out of Control Anger. (3, woman
including 1 a prostitute direct violation of Nazarite Vow); Ate from dead carcass
of lion (Honey) Stomach; Allowed his hair to be cut, direct violation of Nazarite
Vow.
• Point: All of these instances give us a picture of Samson’s disobedience, caving
to the desires of his flesh; in spite of Samson’s short comings, God uses him.
Reading: Judges 16:28 (Samson Pray’s, Destroys Temple & Philistines & Dies)
• 20 Years Samson served the Lord as a Judge, Delivering Israel from oppression.

Transition
Reading: Acts 1:4-9 (Jesus Last Instructions)

New Testament (Acts 16:11-40)

Reading: Acts 16:17-18 (Slave Girl, Fortune Teller Delivered)
• Paul and Silas accused of stirring up trouble
• Arrested & Flogged Severely & Imprisoned
Reading: Acts 16:25-28 (Praying & Praising, Earthquake, Prison Doors Open)
Jailer and Family Saved.

Jesus (Luke 4:18-21)
Reading: Luke 4:18-21
Jesus, synagogue in Nazareth opens the scroll of Isaiah 61:1-2 and Reads.
• “The Spirit of…”

Point: The Holy Ghost Actions in and through God’s people are evidence that Jesus
keep His promise, God is with us and at work through His people

So, remember what Jesse sang earlier, when God is with us we DO NOT need to be
AFRAID, “God Will Help You!”
