Opening Reading: Genesis 2:4-25 (Slow Deliberate)

Areas I Want to Highlight…
• 2 Accounts of Genesis (The Beginning) Chapters 1 & 2.
• Genesis 2
• It fills in some of the beautiful details, that Genesis 1 glosses over.
• It’s focal point is the “Crown Jewel” of God’s creation, “Man” in Genesis 1:27
that part of creation God made in His own image…a reflection of Himself…a
chip of the oldest block.
• Highlights: Creation of Man and Woman & Their Union, Marriage.

The Man Genesis (2:7)
• God “Formed” = Fashioned, Forged, Artistically designed and crafted;
• “Man” (haadam) = S/A Dirt, Ground, Seed of Humanity, Descendants
• Breathed = Blow, Set A flame “Oxygen Causes the Flame to Blow Brighter”
• Breath = Life, Spirit, Living “Animated” Being

The Garden & Being Alone (Genesis 2:8,15-18)
(vv.8, 15) - God “Put” = Settle, Remain, Rested, Placed Into man in the Garden;
• Man was NOT FORMED in the Garden, but the “Wilderness,” “Untamed,”
Unrefined, “Rugged & Dry.”
(vv.16) - Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil = Knowledge - Power - Gain
Advantage (Pursuit of)
(vv.18, 20) - First “NOT GOOD for man to be alone;
• Alone = Seperation, Apart From Relationally,” up to this point in the Story of
Creation EVERYTHING God deems everything “Good,” or “Very Good;”
• Suitable = Corresponds With
• Helper = To Care For, To Assist, To Strengthen

The Woman (Genesis 2:21-25)
(vv.21, 22) Deep Sleep and:
• Took = Obtained, Seized, Collected, Fetched out of…
• Closed = To Shut Up
• Flesh = Meat, Skin, Body Part
• Made = Developed, Built
• Woman = Issah;
• Man = Ish (First Refrence to Husband/Man with “Ish.”)
• Brought = Lead Her To, Gathered Her Into, Included Her To

• Leave = Abandoned, Loose, Forsake for
• Father = Founder
• Mother = Care Giver
• Unite = Cling to, Stick to, Join Fast to…

Marriage Biblically Defined
• 87 Times OT & NT Marriage is directly referenced;
• 17 Different Authors
• Jesus, in Matthew 19, references Genesis 2:23, in talking about Divorce, and states
that, “Moses permitted…divorce because your hearts were hard.”
