In Genesis 17:1-14 we discover the extent of God's commitment to Abram; He not only reaffirms His promises made to Abram when He first established His their relationship, He gives Abram a new name. This new name would establish Abram for ever, even to this day the Islamic, Jewish and Christian faithful look to Abraham as a forefather. The significance of this moment is amplified in the fact that God chose not only to speak to Abram, but to literally appear vv.1 to him, as vv.22 confirms, since it expresses that God, "went up from him." The shear force of these few verses clarifies what a real promise looks like and exposes how divide our loyalties are as human beings.  The Good News is that God is totally NOT LIKE me or you, He is the very definition of FAITHFUL, absolutely!
